The Purple Pages is a directory of "purple" businesses and services that is being created to meet the needs of consumers who are interested in metaphysical, pagan, occult, new age and the like lifestyle.
I call these entities purple because like as there are so many shades of purple... there are so many aspects of these businesses, groups and organizations. They can be difficult to define and consequently, even harder to find.
I once moved to a new state and I desperately needed to find a metaphysical shop that catered to my unique needs. Looking in the yellow pages netted 1 gift shop that just happened to sell candles and incense.
My online searching wasn't must better. I found 5 listings on a well known pagan website, only one of which wasn't closed and it wasn't even close to where I lived. I did eventually meet a few like minded locals who were able to clue me in on the hot spots for people like myself. But it was hard work... and when I finally got to the shop... it was February I moved to that state in June!
I decided at that point that there HAD to be another way. So again I began searching; I found a few things online and a couple of hard copy directories but nothing up to date and comprehensive.
So this is my idea, a free widely available resource that will be up to date, reliable and comprehensive. I have been toying with this idea for over 4 years and it just cannot shake it.
I will be honest, I have no idea how to do this. But that isn't going to stop me from trying.
At this point I am simply going to start posting listings of businesses that I find and that I think will be relevent to my so called "purple" community. I will refine my process as I go and (hopefully) get some feedback on this project. If you have any ideas or comments please let me know!
